Here is another movie gem: Akeelah and the Bee.

In this feel-good story, eleven year-old Akeelah Anderson enters a South Central Los Angeles spelling bee to avoid detention. Dr. Larabee, played by Laurence Fishburn than coaches her for the regional bee. She attempts to go all the way to win the championship bee in Washington D.C. against well-coached competitors from around the U.S. This movie tactfully explores issues of education in the African-American community.

In addition to Fishburn, great acting performances are turned in by Keke Palmer, Angela Bassett, Curtis Armstrong and J.R. Villarreal. We hope you will rent this film and let us know if you enjoyed it as much as we did.
